HAWKS MEN HEAD EAST TO DEFEND NATIONAL GOLD
BROCKVILLE, ON: The Humber Hawks men's cross country team, winners of their first ever CCAA National title last year, will look to repeat as champions this coming weekend in Brockville. The 2015 CCAA event will be hosted by St. Lawrence College, with the race slated for a 12:00 noon start.
Humber has been on the podium for a number of years, before breaking through last season to dethrone the Fanshawe as national champs. This season the breakthrough came earlier, knocking off the Fanshawe squad for the OCAA crown. The Falcons had won every race except the last invitational, leading up to the OCAA Championships.
St. Lawrence Brockville hosted an invitational earlier this season, allowing teams to navigate the course prior to the national event. The Hawks raced well, but lost to RSEQ's Sherbrooke Volontaires.
The key to the Hawks success mirrors the recipe used last year to win the CCAA title, and that is putting team results ahead of individual ones. The top Humber runner placed 16th last year, but were supported by a pack of Hawks closely behind. This top four Humber runner's points counted towards the Hawks winning score, but it was the last two that finished closely behind that took points out of the pockets of their competitors.
Racing for the Hawks this Saturday are:
Luke Deighan
Sam Kirwin
Simon Wells
Their Nunquwenimana
Ali Ghadghoni
Jacob Campbell
