HAWKS CROSS COUNTRY VIE FOR CCAA NATIONAL TEAM AND INDIVIDUAL MEDALS

ETOBICOKE: The Humber Hawks men's and women's cross country teams will be aiming for podium finishes at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, which are being held in Calgary this coming weekend.

Both men's and women's teams enter the national event on a roll, with the women winning provincial gold in a dominating fashion, and men snaring the team silver.

Historically at the CCAA's the Hawk teams have down very well. The women are just a few short years away from winning the national championship, and the men were CCAA national silver medalists last year at the event hosted by Humber College.

When the women's team won their national title they were led by one of the best individual runners in the nation. Vicky Seimon and her individual silver medal led the way, leading a group of runners who all clocked best times.  This year the Hawks have a similar standout, as Lindsay Webster ran to the OCAA individual gold, and will be a favorite to medal this year. She is supported by a fine group of runners, including OCAA Bronze Medalist Coby Phillips. In fact, all six of Humber's racers finished in the top 19 in Ontario.

The men's team are eerily similar to last year's squad, but with a few name changes. Out is Humber's best male runner over the past few years in Nathanial Green , and in is former Fanshawe stand-out Daniel Bright. Daniel led the Hawks to invitational wins over the defending National champions from Fanshawe this year, but the Humber six were unable to contain the Falcons in the OCAA race. A good start and a "best times" race by all of the Hawks squad should push the team back to the podium .

The 2014 CCAA Cross Country National Championships are being hosted by the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). Race time for the women is 2:00 pm EST, and the men take off at 3:00 pm EST.
