PREVIEW: Cross Country Readies for Provincials Saturday

The Storyline

Humber cross country will compete for a provincial title on October 26 at Seneca Polytechnic King Campus in King City. Seneca Polytechnic will host the 2024 OCAA Championships.

Tune-Up

The men's squad's best result was fourth place at Maiden Park to open the season. They have finished in the top five all season long. Liam Bauman has led the team with two top-10 finishes this season.

The women's team has been consistent all season, finishing in the top four in every race (2nd, 4th, 1st and 3rd) and winning the Fanshawe Invitational. Veteran Catherine Irwin has been exceptional this season, with one win, two second-place finishes and a third-place. The result makes her one of the top favorites at Provincials.

Humber at Provincials

Humber women have won seven team titles, including three in a row from 2014-16. The Hawks also have four individual titles, the last coming from Lindsay Webster in 2014. The team narrowly missed the OCAA podium in 2023, finishing in fourth place.

The men's program has two provincial titles (2006 and 2015). Humber has two individual titles: Anthony Biggar won gold in 1995 and Colin Murray-Lawson in 2005.

Led by Blase Uglow's sixth-place finish last year, the Hawks claimed their second bronze medal in the past two years.

In the Rankings

The women's team is currently ranked eighth in the CCAA, while the men's team is not currently ranked.

Mohawk is the highest-ranked women's team in the OCAA at No. 2, while Fanshawe is second on the men's side.
