Men’s Golf Secures Historic 20th OCAA Championship

PICKERING – History was made at Watson's Glen Golf and Country Club, as the Humber men's golf team captured its provincial-best 20th OCAA team gold medal, cementing their legacy as the most dominant program in conference history. The Hawks finished with a team score of +16 (880), pulling away from the field to secure a commanding 24-stroke victory over runner-up St. Clair College (+40).

The three-day championship was filled with highlights for Humber, none bigger than Daniel Talmage's hole-in-one on the par-3 sixth hole during Round 2. The ace electrified the Hawks and provided a crucial boost of momentum heading into the weekend's final round.

Meanwhile, Matthew Morris delivered a career performance, firing a personal-best three-under-par (69) in round two  — the lowest round of the championship — before carding a closing 70 to finish at two-over-par (218) for the tournament. His stellar play vaulted him into a tie for second overall, earning the individual silver medal.

Joining Morris on the podium was teammate Jack Gratrix, who impressed in his OCAA Championship debut. The Sunderland native showed poise beyond his experience, posting steady rounds of 72-75-71 also to finish tied in second at 218.

Humber's depth proved decisive once again, with Talmage (+9, 225) and Michael McCullough (+10, 226) both finishing inside the top-10. Rookie Xavier Bernier rounded out the Hawks' lineup with a T14 finish at +16 (232).

Individually, the championship belonged to Confederation College's Nathan Lepore, who captured the gold medal at one-under par (215) with rounds of 72-72-71.

Still, the story of the week was Humber's unmatched team consistency. After opening with a 292, the Hawks backed it up with rounds of 295 and 293 – the only team to post all three rounds under 300.

With the win, Humber not only adds to its historic OCAA trophy case but also secures a berth at the CCAA national championship, where the Hawks will look to extend their dominance on the national stage.

Morris and Gratrix were named to the All-Ontario team.
