Rachel Chan named Humber Rookie of the Year
The moment Rachel Chan stepped on the court for the Hawks, the CCAA was on notice. Competing in women's singles, she captured the OCAA provincial title before leading Humber to its first CCAA national championship since 2017. Chan's postseason run was nothing short of remarkable, going a perfect 12–0 while outscoring her opponents 504–81 — an average scoreline of 21–3.4 — showcasing complete control in every match she played.
Her dominance peaked in the national gold medal match, where she defeated the three-time Player of the Year in emphatic fashion, winning in straight sets 21–7, 21–7. Chan's ability to overwhelm elite competition with precision, consistency, and composure highlights a level of performance rarely seen from a freshman, cementing her as a cornerstone of Humber's return to national prominence.
Chan is the seventh badminton player to be named the Rookie of the Year.
