HAWKS SOAR IN THE CLASSROOM AS 53 STUDENT-ATHLETES ACHIEVE HONOURS

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks are known throughout Canada as one of the top athletic programs, but what has become increasingly commonplace is the success the Hawks student-athletes are achieving in the classroom.

This past semester, Humber has placed fifty-three student-athletes on the honour roll, thus all of them being honoured as OCAA Academic All-Stars.

Mirroring the intensity the players have on the court by way of the direction from their respective coaching staff, the Humber student-athletes get similar leadership from the Hawks Varsity Academic Coordinator. Monique Haan, now in her eighth year with the Humber Athletic Department, continues to take on a major role to ensure the student-athlete success in their chosen academic streams. From the time they are selected to a Hawks team, she meets and mentors them on a regular basis in the very active Varsity Academic Centre which is located on the second floor of the Humber Athletic Centre.

Beyond the semester ending successes, it is the sky-rocketing graduation rate that has given her and the entire Hawks administration a reason to smile and be proud.

"As a department, it is always a priority for us to take an active role in the academic success of our student-athletes", said Humber Director of Athletics Ray Chateau. "This number is a solid indicator that the consistent efforts we put in continue to reap very strong results, and I look forward to honouring these successes during our Annual Honour Roll & Awards Breakfast next week".

Of note, those honour students who also achieved recognition in OCAA play (All-Star, Player of the Year, Championship MVP/All-Star, etc) will be recognized as a CCAA Academic All-Canadian.
